For some people, the baking stone becomes such a focal point within the kitchen that they turn to this utensil time and time again. While this might be great for the food that is coming out of this sort of kitchen, this often means that the stone itself will suffer quite a lot of wear and tear. Keeping the stone in the best possible condition, therefore, is only possible when individuals follow the right maintenance tips when caring for this item.

Always Heat The Stone Slowly

Anyone looking to use their pizza stones in an oven will need to make sure that they heat up their stones in this environment. It is not a good idea to treat the stone like a tray and place it in the oven once the oven is already hot because this could cause the stone to begin cracking. Individuals might want to keep in mind, however, that they will usually be able to cook frozen goods on this stone without much difficulty.

Letting The Stone Cool

Just as stones will need to be warmed up slowly, this is also true with regards to the cooling down process. Individuals should keep in mind that once the cooking is done, these stones are going to be hot enough to cause some serious injury, so it is important that they are allowed to cool in a safe spot. Most people tend to place the stone in their kitchen sink in order to have them cool down.

Cleaning The Stone

When cleaning a pizza stone, individuals will most likely want to stay away from abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals. It is generally a good idea to clean the stone with a sponge, as well as with some ordinary soap and water.

It is imperative that individuals take note not to allow the stone to remain in water for long periods of time. These stones are porous in nature, which means that they will end up absorbing the water in which they are placed. This moisture will remain within the stone, causing it to weaken and possibly even crack further down the line. The stone should only ever come into contact with water in instances where it is being washed.

Immediately after washing the stone, it is important that the stone is dried completely with a towel before being set out onto a counter in order to allow any excess water to evaporate.

Don’t Fuss Over Stains

Stains are quite normal when it comes to these items, but individuals are advised to make sure that they brush off any loose or stubborn food particles that might be adhering to the surface.

Most people tend to store their stones within their ovens and utilize them whenever they get the chance, although this will depend on each individual person.

A properly cared for pizza stone will last longer, look better and generally be much more pleasant to work with, and this is why individuals should ensure they know how to take care of theirs.
