Window cleaning is a task that many homeowners can accomplish but are reluctant to do so. The reason behind this may stem from the fact that many cleaning windows are found in high places or may be difficult to reach. Reaching these may require a step ladder or going out on the roof to clean them. For owners who have qualms about putting themselves in danger, it is best to contact a professional to help in this aspect. There are also those who have easier to access places and can actually clean them without any problems. They just need the right materials and tools to do so properly. Tips and Advice There are many different tips about window cleaning. Some of these are dependent on the types that need to be cleaned. There are glass panes that come in different shapes and sizes, as well as jalousie types that come in individual slats. The latter is easier to clean than the glass panes because they just need to be wiped with a damp cloth and then buffed with a dry one. Due to their small area, streaks are not so easy to see and one can get away with these. If one truly wants to make these clean and clear, a good rubbing with a soft, dry cloth should be able to get rid of the streaks and present a clear jalousie. Having both damp and dry pieces of cloth on hand can make the task easier. Using a damp sponge is also possible, but make sure that it has been squeezed sufficiently to avoid leaks and drips which may compromise the frame or sill which are usually made of wood or metal. It is still necessary to wipe it dry in order to prevent streaks. Glass panes are more difficult to clean because they usually have a bigger area and streaks can be easily seen because they are positioned to be in the line of sight. Window cleaning tools and materials for these may also differ. The use of a squeegee is beneficial for glass panes because this tool is efficient and very quick (when you get the hang of it) to use. Usually, they are also paired with a sponge on the other side to facilitate faster application of the sudsy water or solution. Bigger glass panes will benefit from a cloudy day since this means the heat is not so strong and the water or solution will not dry as fast. Warm, sunny days will dry up the liquid even before one has finished applying it on a large glass pane. Flannel or cotton cloth leaves it clearer and cleaner. Streaks can be rubbed safely away with these materials because they do not scratch it. Many people might recommend using old newspaper for window cleaning, but the ink from these pieces of paper might leave the glass scratched if this is practiced. If one wants to clean using paper, use newspaper with has fewer printed pictures to prevent scratches.
