It turns out that many people have started abusing herbal incense. Specifically, they've been smoking it to get the same effects as smoking marijuana. The price tag of herbal incense is roughly twice as high as marijuana, so what's all the fuss about? - Instead, it contains a blend of chemicals that create the same effect as THC.
- The producers of herbal incense have basically avoided bans of their products, by placing a warning on the packaging that it's not fit for human consumption.
Various regions throughout the USA and abroad have attempted to ban herbal incense, which is also known by a variety of nicknames. - The goal of such legislation is to ban different types of "cannabinoids" that are added to herbal incense, to create a THC-like effect.
In an interesting twist, even the creator of cannabinoids has warned that smoking herbal incense could produce several unwanted results. One of the main problems is that experts simply don't know the long-term effects that they could cause. What they DO know is that cannabinoids stay in people's body for quite a long time. As of September of 2010, no federal laws have been passed to make cannabinoids illegal throughout the entire USA. - However, nine states have already banned the substance, while legislation is pending in roughly ten other states.
- However, one of the obstacles of banning cannabinoids is that manufacturers can simply change the chemical composition of their products. This allows their products to retain their THC-esque effects, but by using a different formula.
Still, proponents of legislation to ban cannabinoids argue that the harmful health effects caused by smoking the product is worth the need to ban multiple types of cannabinoids. Because herbal incense isn't regulated, some retailers of this type of product have even avoided requiring an 18-year-old minimum for purchasing it. It is highly likely that more states in the USA will continue to pass legislation that bans the sale of herbal incense in their regions. However, it remains to be seen whether federal legislation will eventually be passed, for now it's still legal to kratom laws online and in the stores.
