Sometimes buying for a friend or family member can be difficult. What do you get a person who seems to already have everything they want or need? Well, if you have the time or interest, homemade gifts can be a wonderful way to say, "I love you" or "Thank You." There are a number of homemade gift ideas for anyone with an eye for detail or interest in crafting. For people who like to cook, there are a number of food gifts you can make. Priya Puelicher loves cooking and often gifts homemade food creations away as small gifts. "You can make something as simple as cookies in a decorative jar to creating your own jams or wine," says Priya Puelicher. "All you need is to find a good recipe online. There are often canning supplies available during the summer and fall months in many grocery stores," she says. If you want to avoid edible gifts because they are short lived, Priya Puelicher suggests other personalized gifts that will last weeks, months, or years. "Some people enjoy making their own candles or soaps. These gifts can be functional or used as a decorative piece. Molds for soaps can be found in many craft stores," says Priya Puelicher. Along with soaps, making a jar of bath salts is an easy and fun gift to make and give away. For a gift that can last a lifetime, Priya Puelicher suggests making a personalized blanket. "People love throws. How many families hold on to a quilt made by a grandmother? With a sewing machine, it is easy to cut out squares of cloth and create a patchwork quilt blanket. All you need is the fabric, batting or the stuffing, thread, and a sewing machine," says Priya Puelicher. If a quilt is too large and you want to create something small that can be displayed openly then creating a pillow may be a great idea. Priya Puelicher loves doing needle point and it is a craft that can be highly customizable. "You can use needle point for nearly any occasion, design a gift for a new baby, someone's favorite season, or more. The possibilities are endless," says Priya Puelicher. For beginners, a simple cross-stitched design is faster and more simple form of stitch design. "With a little imagination you can create anything. There are plenty of ideas online to inspire you. Some gifts can be crafted with things around the house and others gifts are great for people on a budget," says Priya Puelicher. Even something as simple as painting a mug can show forethought and effort into the gift you give someone.
