Discover the Delightful Secrets Hidden in the Heart of Florence

Travel & Tourism,Art and Culture
With some of the most amazing ancient history anywhere in the world, Italy is a fascinating place to visit for any type of tourist. Right at the heart of this unique history lies the renaissance period that was so prominent in Florence and Tuscany. Tours of this area take in some remarkable sights and attractions, but perhaps the best way to explore the area is to take a guided tour with local experts who will know all sorts of intriguing secrets about the area. There are some things that the guidebooks simply don’t know! By taking a small group around the secret areas of Florence and Tuscany, tours can offer insights that you might miss otherwise. Here are some of the hidden gems you might come across.

Perseus with the Head of Medusa

This remarkable statue is not on everybody’s radar, but checking it out is a must for any art or sculpture lover. The statue is impressively rendered and an extraordinarily moving piece, plus sculptor Benvenuto Cellini hid a self-portrait in the work which adds a little extra intrigue.

Torrigiani Garden

The delightful Torrigiani Garden is unlike any other area in Florence or Tuscany. Tours that take you this way are treating you into a tranquil and secret spot in the heart of a bustling city. The park is adorned with ornate structures and defined and manicured shrubbery. A perfect place to idle on a sunny afternoon.

Borgo San Jacopo

Although it isn’t a sight in itself, the other side of the river is where the coolest part of the city is. Head over toward Borgo San Jacopo for a taste of life that is a little different than in the tourist hotspots. As the streets lead upwards towards Piazza Michelangelo, you can enjoy stunning views of palaces and towers too.

Michelangelo’s Graffiti

It’s not a well known fact but due to his political beliefs, Michelangelo spent three months hidden as a virtual prisoner underneath the city. While there he scrawled some fantastic artworks on the walls, which have come to be known as his prison graffiti. It’s rare to get a look but some tourists do manage to get in if you go at the right time!

Delle Porte Sante Cemetery

It might seem odd to visit a cemetery while on a fantastic trip to Florence and Tuscany. Tours that go here, however, know what they are doing! As well as a tranquil and serene spot away from the touristy bustle of the city, it provides astonishing views that are unlike anything else you can see on your trip.

No Time Like the Present

Taking a guided tour is a great way of getting to know an area that is rich in truly remarkable history, culture and experiences. If this is your first time in Tuscany it can be the perfect way of getting to know as much as possible and see the things that other tourists just don’t get to!
