When moving a short distance, such as across town or in state, you have the luxury of not having to worry about what will happen to your stuff during the move. But a long distance move adds that much uncertainty into the moving process. When you pack up for a long distance move, you have to pack carefully to make sure everything will survive the trip. A bed is one item that presents a challenge when moving. Beds are bulky and heavy and that makes them difficult to transport. Here are a few tips for packing beds. First, take off any sheets, wash them, and pack them. Take off mattresses and disassemble the bed frame. Don't make the mistake of trying to move the bed frame as it is. Although disassembling it will take a little extra work, it will be worth it in the long run when it comes time to move and transport the frame. Make sure when you disassemble it that you mark each piece so you know how it goes back together. Taking pictures of the process as you go can be helpful later. Using ties or packing tape, secure the rails together so that they won't become misplaced. Take any screws, nuts, and bolts and put them in a plastic sealable bag like a sandwich bag. Carefully label the bag and tape the bag to the rails so that they won't become separated. Pack headboards or footboards by wrapping blankets or pads around them. Use plastic mattress covers for your mattresses and box springs so that they don't become dirty or soiled during transit.
