Glass Reinforced Plastic - referred to as ‘GRP products’ – is a fibrous polymer product manufactured with a plastic matrix reinforced by fine fibres made of glass. Also known as GFL, or simply by ‘fibreglass’ as a product in its own right, GRP products are lightweight and strong and used for many functions including the manufacture of boats and automobile parts, water tanks, roofing pipes and external door skins. As individual structures, GRP products are both stiff and hardwearing against outdoor and indoor climates and, although it is commonly assumed that the fibres are weak compression, GRP products are actually hardy items of kit that can serve a plethora of purposes for years without any maintenance or repair. The manufacturing process in building GRP Products used for large furnaces for instance, is distinctive and irreplaceable and only GRP products are created in this unique way. In layman’s terms, to form the matter used to make GRP products silica sand, limestone, Kaolin, dolomite and other minerals are melted gradually to form a liquid which is then molded and extruded through bushings that are then sized and shaped accordingly. To ensure that all GRP products boast the same endurance capabilities, a primer is then added which both protects the glass filaments and ensures a secure bond to allow for the transfer of shear loads. Without said ‘bonding’ the GRP products would fall foul to everyday use and become fruitless to their user’s needs. GRP products are intrinsically versatile and they combine strength and water resistant qualities in equal measure to be utilised effectively in many- a commercial setting Worldwide and can be cost- effective long term and affordable in the short term. If you operate in any of the following industries: commercial retail, production line, factories or construction and feel that GRP products including GRP grating (excellent to provide a non- slip surface in potentially unsafe environments) would be advantageous to you, call or visit Fibergrate Composite Structures today.
