I’ve always known that the cost of healthcare in the U.S. was very expensive. But I never put it into perspective until I watched a video where someone walks around the streets of the U.K. and asks people to guess the cost of healthcare in the U.S. Here are some of the questions the interviewer asked. Cost of two epipens? U.K. resident’s guess: $80. Actual cost: $600 Cost of childbirth? U.K. resident’s guess: $100 - $200 Actual cost: On average $10,000 Speaking of childbirth, women who give birth through C-section are charged if they want to hold their baby. Cost of calling an ambulance? U.K. resident’s guess: $100 Actual cost: $2,500 No wonder why people refuse to call an ambulance when they get injured. Now whether the actual figures are accurate can always be questioned. Different sources will give you different numbers. But hopefully this helps put the expensive cost of U.S. healthcare into perspective. But this just goes to show… If you get really sick, you’re probably going to go bankrupt. And if you’re poor, good luck trying to live a full life. The World Health Organization says that health is a fundamental human right? No, It’s more like a privilege. And I can almost guarantee that the cost is only going to keep rising, to the point where it’s more cost-efficient to let a terribly sick or injured person pass away than to heal them. Sounds dark?
