Lily Tomlin tickets are now available to be bought or sold online at Stubhub.com. For decades, Lily Tomlin has brought her unique brand of humor to television. Her charm and absurd humor has entertained plenty of fans during her stand-up shows, as well. With a fresh tour ongoing, you can bet plenty of fans will be rushing out to buy Lily Tomlin tickets. But one aspect of this incredibly gifted humorist’s career that has made her distinctive is her work in film. Whether collaborating with famed director Robert Altman or making a cameo appearance in other films, she’s produced some amazing acting in the past that has stood the test of time. This series examines a select group of her films. Some of them are well-known roles. Others are small, and may have been overlooked, but are worth taking a peek at. Being synonymous with some of Robert Altman’s finest ensemble movies, you can expect that Lily Tomlin knows a thing or two about the counter-culture of the ‘60s and ‘70s. It’s fitting, then, that she plays a middle-aged baby boomer in Flirting with Disaster that raised her son in a hippy environment. The movie focuses on Ben Stiller, who is on the search for his real birth parents. After a series of misadventures, he discovers they’re Alan Alda and Lily Tomlin, playing two aging hippies who believe discipline can damage a child’s psyche. It’s a funny turn as a character that plays on Tomlin’s own hippie background. The film itself is a hilarious romp, and catches Stiller at his best. Over his film career, he tends to ricochet between two character types: The patient everyman trying to cope with stressful situations (Meet the Parents) and the arrogant a-hole (Heavyweights). Flirting with Disaster catches him performing as the former at its best. It’s worn a little thin over the years and much repetition. Tomlin and Alda have great chemistry as an ultra-liberal couple afraid to take on any position of authority lest they come off as "the man." Despite this, the son they didn’t give up for adoption rebels against them whenever he can—including slipping LSD into their food. Written by Andrew Good and sponsored by StubHub.com.
