Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is one of the oldest chocolate companies in the world and the second oldest chocolate company in the United States of America. It has been started by an Italian man called Domingo Ghirardelli who has settled in California after working in South America for several years. The company has been incorporated in the year 1852. Since then Ghirardelli has become a leading brand in the United States of America. Ghirardelli was born in Italy. His father was an importer of foods and he learned his first lessons in chocolate making in Italy when he worked as a helper in a local candy shop. Later he moved to Uruguay to work with a chocolate company and later he came to Peru and started his own confectionary shop there. He started manufacturing Ghirardelli chocolate there. It was in 1947. Two years later in 1949 he moved to California to make luck in gold mines. After a short period of working in Gold mines he started a shop supplying general items to the fellow miners. Thus he started his business in the soil of United States of America.
