A balancing disorder is a condition that causes a feeling of unsteadiness or dizziness even when a person is lying down. There are several causes for problems with balance, including medications that affect the inner ear, problems with the balance center of the ear, or problems with the receptors in the brain. Treating balance disorders in Las Vegas, can be done by an ear doctor. Symptoms A balancing disorder is most often discovered because the patient complains of problems such as vertigo, giddiness, a falling sensation, nausea, and/or an increase in their pulse. The symptoms can come on suddenly or build for a time. While it can be tempting to wait and see if the symptoms clear up on their own, they don’t usually go away by themselves. Instead, they get worse. The dizziness can lead to nausea which can make it difficult to walk, drive, or work. Causes One of the causes of balance problems is earwax. Earwax is supposed to dry up and fall out of the ear on its own. However, when it doesn’t, it can throw off a person's balance by interfering with the balance center of the body located in the ears. Ear infections can also cause vertigo. The infection causes inflammation inside the inner ear which throws off the body’s ability to maintain balance. Certain medications, like those used to treat cancer or some antibiotics, can also cause problems with balance. Treatment The type of treatment prescribed by an ear doctor may include cleaning out the ear canal. Once the wax is gone, the symptoms should clear up. Other treatments may include balance training from a physical therapist. It can take a while for a person to relearn how to balance, but by continually practicing, the patient can regain their sense of balance. There are other forms of treatment available for balance disorders in Las Vegas from an audiologist. When balance problems are suspected, a visit to an audiologist is the first step.
