126. Misaligned values equals trouble
September 09, 2021
I once read a story about a person interviewing for a sales position.
During the conversation, the interviewer asked the candidate what he valued, then he listed four things, two of which were wealth and family, and I don’t remember the other two.
When the candidate gave his answer, he chose family over wealth.
But when the candidate asked the interviewer the same question, he chose wealth over family.
And that’s when the candidate said he’s no longer interested in the position and walked away simply because he felt their values were not aligned.
Later on, he got an em... (read more)

127. Showing some love for unofficial holidays
September 06, 2021
It’s Labor Day, also known as the unofficial end of summer.
We’re seeing Labor Day sales everywhere and the worst thing a kid can see, Back to School sale commercials.
But while everyone else is focused on Labor Day, I spent some time looking at the unofficial holiday calendar.
And apparently, today is National Read a Book Day.
It feels like people aren’t reading much nowadays, and they’re only doing it when they have to.
Other than that, most of the time, we’re always on the move physically and mentally, constantly worrying about so many different aspects of our lives... (read more)

128. Why I see email marketing as more than just a sales tool
September 03, 2021
There’s no doubt that customer service isn’t the best nowadays.
You stay on hold for five to 10 minutes just to get on the phone with a person who is reading from a script.
Unfortunately, some people see customer service as an expense.
Businesses outsource it and think it’s in their customers’ best interests, when their actual experiences say otherwise.
And when you think of customer service, usually the first thing that pops into your mind is a person who can help troubleshoot your problems related to a specific product or service.
Now I’m coming across more people wh... (read more)

133. The greatest entrepreneurship story untold
August 27, 2021
I always find it impressive to see people go into business at such a young age.
No, I’m not talking about the influencers on Instagram and YouTube who show off their rented lamborghinis, penthouses they rented on Airbnb, and claim they retired at the age of 17.
But take Shark Tank, for example.
Sometimes, the show features some young kids along with their parents. It’s amazing to see these kids give better pitch presentations than most adults.
And some of them do end up making deals with the investors, which is great!
But there’s one story that I believe tops them all.... (read more)

134. Putting a little thought into things goes a long way
August 25, 2021
Last month, I wrote an email with the subject line, “Never thought I’d see this on Linkedin.”
And if you don’t know, I always take my daily emails and publish them on the blog page of my website, so I have an entire archive of daily emails there.
But I also publish them in article directories for list building purposes. But according to their terms, other people are allowed to take my content and publish them on their own websites as long as they give credit, which I was fine with.
Recently, I found a site that published my email about LinkedIn.
But here’s the funny thing. ... (read more)

136. Another cautionary tale of big platforms screwing their customers over
August 24, 2021
Not that the industries themselves might be of interest to you, but what recently happened within them is probably worth knowing about.
1. Google decided that, starting September 1st, they will remove sugar dating apps from its Google Play Store. From what I read, they’re doing it simply to follow trafficking laws.
2. Onlyfans will ban explicit content from being published on their platforms starting October 1st.
The reason why they’re doing it is to continue the working relationship between the platform and the banking and payment processing companies. But they also want to mak... (read more)

137. Man admits to being a digital pirate
August 23, 2021
In a certain Facebook group, someone shared his copywriting journey.
Like a lot of stories, it started off with them being broke and could only afford to buy a $20 copywriting book.
They landed a few clients and earned enough money to invest in more advanced copywriting courses.
And that went on for a while. Earned money from clients, invested in courses, earned money, bought courses.
The story went well until he mentioned that he bought a “pirate email course.”
I wasn’t sure what he meant by that at first.
Then he mentioned he bought the course at a huge discount... (read more)

138. An inside look into the life of wine tasters
August 20, 2021
During pre-COVID times, I’d go on event websites like Meetup and Eventbrite to attend local business networking events.
Once in a while, I’d come across other casual events, wine tasting was one of them that caught my eye, because at the time, I didn’t know that was a thing.
At one point, I did some for-fun research and learned the practice of wine tasting.
Apparently, there’s a whole process wine enthusiasts go through to evaluate the quality of the wine.
Coincidentally enough, I listened to a podcast episode that involved this topic.
This man (We’ll call him Pat) use... (read more)

139. The prospect who thought copywriting was a magical skill
August 19, 2021
I once heard a story from a copywriter.
A prospect asked him to write a million dollar sales letter for him.
The copywriter said,
“Okay, how many people are on your email list?”
And he replied, “Oh, actually I don’t have a list.”
“Okay...do you have a product?”
“...No.”
“Well, there’s nothing I can do for you then.”
And that was the end of that conversation.
A lot of people seem to think copywriting is a skill that’ll magically bring in sales. Even I was one of those people when I first heard about it.

141. How to be a more selfish marketer
August 18, 2021
I saw a Twitter screenshot that caught my attention because it had to do with email marketing.
----------
I can't think of a more self-centered marketing statement than this:
"Send more emails. It will definitely make you more money and if people unsubscribe then that's their loss."
And yet I read or hear some version of it at least once or twice a month.
----------
So is sending more emails a selfish thing to do?
In my opinion, yes. In fact, marketing in and of itself is selfish.
When you’re marketing, you’re essentially promoting yourself, you’re promo... (read more)

142. LinkedIn user's Chick-fil-a story for attracting hundreds of views
August 17, 2021
There was a funny LinkedIn post I read, and it went like this:
----------
So I was in a Chick-fil-a drive through and the lady behind me continuously tooted her horn and flipped me off because I was taking too long to order. Once she ordered, I asked the cashier what did she get…it wasn’t much so I paid for her food.
I continued to the next window and she leaned out of her window looking all crazy at me because the cashier told her I paid for her food. I know she was embarrassed so I avoided looking through the rear view mirror so we wouldn’t catch eye contact.

143. Man, is running fun
August 11, 2021
Last week, I decided to take my daily walks up a notch.
It was too easy, and I wanted a challenge. So I started jogging.
I started off with a light HIIT-like routine where I jog for 30 seconds, walk for 30 seconds, and repeat.
And slowly, I increased it to 60 seconds.
Then, I decided to test myself to see how long I can jog for without stopping. Turns out, quite a while. As long as I jog at a certain pace and remember to keep breathing, I’m good.
At that point, running out of breath isn’t really the issue, it’s a matter of how long I can jog for until my leg muscles gi... (read more)

146. (LLLT)Low-level laser therapy in acclerating orthodontic tooth
August 05, 2021
Orthodontic treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth to improve the way they look and work. By distributing the pressure of the bite to all the teeth through orthodontic treatment, it also helps to maintain the long-term health of the teeth, gums and jaw joints. The length of treatment varies depending on the severity of the problem, with some taking a few months and others two and a half years. Most people can be cured in a year or two. It is therefore of great clinical importance to explore safe and effective adjunctive interventions to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement, achie... (read more)

147. Reasons why email is dead

On more than one occasion, I talked about why email is not dead and why the “marketing experts” who claim that email is dead or is going to be dead by a certain year are wrong.
But today, let’s have a little fun and do something different.
Let’s step into the shoes of the marketing experts and brainstorm some reasons why they’d say email is dead.
Now, keep in mind that these reasons I’m about to list may range from reasonable, to debatable, to outright ridiculous.
So without further ado, some reasons why I think marketing experts online claim email is dead are:

148. "Don't be a secret agent"
August 03, 2021
Last week, I had a lovely coffee chat with a real estate agent in Connecticut.
If my memory serves me correctly, he might be the first real estate agent I got acquainted with.
But it was definitely one of the more fun coffee chats I had.
This guy was a huge law of attraction person, and our conversation got to the point where he shared his vision board with me. And if it wasn’t so inconvenient, I would’ve offered to share mine as well.
As we reached the end of our call, he left off with this piece of advice:

150. An important business lesson from the jazz world
August 02, 2021
I remember years ago, I took a class about the origins of Jazz.
Sadly, since it was so long ago, I don’t remember much of what was taught anymore.
Off the top of my head, the only things I remember learning were:
Louis Armstrong and his unique, raspy voice.
John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie’s frog-like cheeks when he played the trumpet.
And jazz improvisation.
That last one is the most interesting to me, and it’s the thing I want to talk more about.
Usually, jazz musicians would create melodies on the spot during their solo performances. But when I say on the spot... (read more)
