A gait analysis course is targeted for physicians (physical medicine and rehabilitation), orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists, nursing practitioners, orthotists, engineers, and basically any professional who deals with children who suffer from gait deviations. Three day courses cover both basic and advanced paths. The basic path will be aimed at teaching the preliminary abilities needed for gait analysis so that supplementary treatments may be provided. The advanced path will be customized for clinical practitioners who have experience in analysing gait. Here, the presenters will give an in depth talk about the difficulties in interpreting gait in children who are disabled. Both of these courses will emphasize on deciphering gait data so that related treatments may be applied for ambulatory children who suffer from disabilities such as cerebral palsy. After completion of the basic course, the participants will be able to explain the kinematics, kinetics, and electromyography (EMG) patterns that are linked with the average gait. They will also be competent enough to distinguish gait deviations that are related to tightness of muscles, deformities of the bone, and tone issues for children born with cerebral palsy. They will also be proficient in accounting for the restrictions and possible errors related with clinical gait analysis. Participants will be adept at displaying basic skills in analysing gait data. They will also capable of explaining a consequent treatment plan that is based on the results of the analysis of gait data. Participants who will be completing the advanced course will be able to sum up how they will be able to make use of a methodical problem solving approach to strategize treatments based on analysis of gait data. They will also be skilled at depicting the impact of biomechanical modelling on the interpretation of gait data. They will also be adept at communicating dysfunction of the lever arm and its various effects on gait. They will also be proficient at expressing a basic knowledge of the problems of modelling foot deformities, as well as interpreting the derived data. Participants will also be competent enough to explain the mechanical principles related to crouch gait, and its effect on gait data. Lastly, they will be capable of exploring advanced applications of motion analysis. This course is funded by the Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in collaboration with the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and University Hospital Pellenberg.
