Built-up roofs: These are created only on flat or nearly flat roofs. Roofing felt is made in layers, and hot tar is used to build the surface. The final layer is covered with gravel to give protection. Many commercial complexes use this kind of covering for their buildings. Roll roofing: This type is quick to install, it is inexpensive, but has a very short life span. It is useful exclusively to flat roofs. It should be used as temporary solution by the homeowner, till he goes in for sturdier material.
