Tea tree oil is a chemical substance extracted from the leaves of the tea tree, also known as Melaleuca alternifolia. Native to Australia, the tree grows in swamps and around streams and other wet areas. The oil is distilled from the leaves with steam and is then bottled and sold as tea tree oil. The oil itself has many beneficial properties. It is an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-septic and also has germicidal properties as well, making it excellent for cleaning and sanitizing. It is no surprise that tea tree oil is also effective at sanitizing and cleaning the face and allowing the skin to be healthy with no outbreaks of acne. Treatment:
The easiest way to treat acne with tea tree oil is to simply apply it directly to the pimples as soon as possible. Extreme cases of acne may require the oil to be applied to the entire face. Tea tree oil acne treatments should be applied during the early morning and late at night, just before going to sleep. Dab a cotton swab in the oil and dab a small amount on each pimple at each application. If you’re going to apply the oil to your entire face, add two or three drops of tea tree oil to your regular skin cleanser and apply normally. Using tea tree oil directly on the skin may cause slight burning and irritation. This is caused by the tea tree oil killing the bacteria on the skin that contribute to acne outbreaks. Keep in mind that tea tree oil should never be used if a severe rash or extremely painful burning occurs, as this may be the sign of an allergic reaction. General Skin Care:
Keeping the skin healthy all the time will contribute to an acne free face and will supplement the effectiveness of the tea tree oil. Even using powerful natural remedies such as tea tree oil will not help if you do not take care of your skin. Washing your face twice per day, once when waking up in the morning and again prior to going to sleep, is vital to keeping your face acne free. Do not use a mild soap to wash your face, as this will cause your skin to dry out more and cause pimples. Instead, use a moisturizing soap to keep your skin healthy and radiant. Comparison:
Tea tree oil works for a large number of acne sufferers, and stands up to a head to head comparison with commercial acne medications. Commercial products often soothe acne temporarily, to incite the customer to buy more of the products. Additionally, commercial acne products are usually far more expensive than the small amounts of tea tree oil that can treat acne for a long period of time.
