When you move to another country there will be many different legal issues and practical issues surrounding the move. For instance it will be necessary to ensure that you have a house ready before you leave, and there will be legal issues already involved in this. You will have to sell your home and you will have to take out a mortgage etc on your new home. At the same time the laws in Canada regarding council tax, stamp duty etc might be different from the laws in your current country meaning that you need to learn these in order to be able to move legally. Of course if you are renting a property in Canada or going to live with someone you know out there then there will be fewer obstacles to consider in this case and it may even be easier to stay in a rented property as an interim solution while you look for a permanent home. Meanwhile shipping your belongings will also be a lot more difficult when you are moving to a different country and this will have to take into account the laws surrounding customs and what you are allowed and not allowed to bring into the country. More important though is immigration law, which will determine whether you are allowed to move to the country or to work there. This is a very complicated field, but it is entirely your responsibility to ensure that you understand the immigration law in Canada before you go. Failure to do so will mean that you will be living in the country illegally, and whether or not you are aware of this you will be held responsible. To fully understand immigration law you should speak to an immigration lawyer in Canada who will be able to speak you through all of the different facets and ensure that you are able to gain access. For example you might be moving to Canada in order to work in which case you will need to apply for a Canadian visa. With a Canadian visa you will then have the right to live and work in the country for the duration of the visa, but to obtain one you will need to be able to prove that you will be working out there and that you will be capable of supporting yourself during your stay. In some other cases you will be moving to live with a partner and in this case you will be required to prove that you are married and that you are living with your partner and are financially stable. To go through this you will need to find all of the documents pertaining to your marriage and your current living arrangements and should speak to an immigration lawyer who can help talk you through the immigration marriage interview questtions. Whatever your purpose for moving it will always be your responsibility to find out how to apply for immigration and to ensure that your move is legal. However an immigration lawyer can certainly help to take some of this burden and hold your hand through the process.
