Helpful Tips for Moving

Home Improvement
When it comes time to move stress can be at a very high level. What you need to do is to reduce the stress you are experiencing as you get closer to moving day. Here we explore some basis ways to help you to calm your mind and to stop it from racing in every direction!

Moving is stressful no matter how you want to look at it. Often times changing residences coincidences with other life changes which can add to the stress load even more. While there is no way to completely get rid of the stress you are feeling, there are ways to reduce it. One of those ways is to formulate a plan and get organized. Procrastinating is one of the worst things you can do when it comes time to relocate. It does not matter whether your new home is a street away or a state away being prepared to the best of your ability can help to alleviate some of the frustrations you are bound to feel!

If you are a pack rat then there has never been a better time to go through your things with a scrutinizing eye. Toss out, donate or recycle the things that you have been meaning to use or do something with for years but never seem to get around to. There is something about getting rid of the old to make room for the new that can make you feel lighten and happier.

After all moving usually signals a new start so why not start anew without bringing stuff with you that you will probably never use at your new place either. Make a pile for the things that are headed for the trash and those that you can give away. Ask family members and friends if there is anything they would like before you pack up the unwanted items.

If you are doing the move without hiring movers and are using a U-Haul truck or have friends helping you then make sure you rent a dolly (or a couple of them) to help you transport your items from your old home to the truck and then from the truck to your new home. Any piece of equipment or supplies that can be used to make the move easier for everyone involved should be put to use. This can save someone from hurting their back or pulling a muscle.

Make sure you purchase enough boxes for your belongings. Consider what you have and then buy the right sizes boxes. You might want to see if any of your local stores or anyone you know has boxes that they can give you before you go ahead and buy boxes. Remember that the larger a box is the more you will pack into it and therefore the heavier it will be.

When you pack your dishes and other breakables instead of using newspaper or bubble wrap use kitchen towels or small hand towels. Not only will this help to protect them but it will also mean that you will have fewer towels to pack.

Many stores sell plastic containers with lids that can be snapped on. These containers come in a variety of sizes and shapes and are ideal for when you are moving. As well if it is raining or snowing on the day you move then the plastic containers will not get wet. Take a look at stores such as Wal-Mart and local hardware stores to find out what they have to offer in terms of these handy containers. Moving day can be less of a worry if you remember all of these important points and put them into practice.
