Is society something that can be adapted to be made perfect? What could make this come to fruition? NXIVM, a New York based organization founded by Keith Raniere, seems to think this can be done through ethics. Someone I know that is familiar with the company explained to me that they are devoted to making life better through the actions of humankind. I informed her it sounded a bit like utopia to me. She said, "Exactly, it's the idea of a perfect, harmonic world." "Idealists" are individuals that believe in the aforesaid perfect world. They believe that there's still a chance for the world to get better. They believe this can be done without a doubt. Against the idea are people who think evil and bad things will always prevail in the world who are called "realists." Realists believe it's a world of dystopia, or a totalitarian universe in which everything is unpleasant, degraded, and bad. How are things set in place for an idealist? How does an idealist allow a difference in this society? Which type of life do we lead? Really, I believe it depends on who you ask. Ultimately, the universe is an accumulation of individuals. If people can change, then the world can change as well, right? I have always believed that ideal, but have not had a clear idea as to what it would take to make that ideal reality, and whether it's even possible. There are various changes that should be made if we are to ever see a perfect world, what are they? Change is only going to be possible if the people on this earth begin to work together on working on themselves. If we dig a bit deeper, to the heart of what determines how an individual will act, we come to a person's ethics. These feelings inside you that advise you if something is wrong or right is you ethical beliefs. The understanding that Utopia is simply right around the corner is based on if people can work together to make it happen or not. I believe that's the point this NXIVM group makes. This organization believes that ethics prevails over everything in our universe and will eventually be used to help people work as a team. Imagine a world in which people strive to create a better experience not only for themselves, but for those around them. This is something that we can accomplish if people fasten their faith in it.
