The city of Bangkok Thailand is packed with hordes of tourists, locals and thousands of motor vehicles, at times this can be a little too hectic for a tourist that wishes to escape from the busy chaotic life that one is used to back home. Away from the bright neon signs, the congested roads and the raunchy clubs that are all the rage in the Thai capital is the Chao Pharaya River. Though the river may not seem obvious at first, the Chao Pharaya snakes it way through the centre of Bangkok on its way to the Gulf of Thailand. The river commences in the Northern Highlands close to the Thai border with Myanmar and winds it way through the country for more than 300 kilometers before arriving in Bangkok. All through out its course human settlements have sprung up on its banks, the city of Bangkok being the most densely populated, having a total of 12 million inhabitants. Though the city was once dubbed the “Venice of the East” motorized transport and railway links have taken over from the canals of Bangkok in being the major form of transport. However a cruise on the serene waters of the Chao Pharaya River is something that every tourist should experience. One may momentarily escape from the seemingly unending chaos that is seen in this Asian city. Many of the important attractions in Bangkok can be accessed via the river and this also provides an extra dimension of excitement in exploring these oriental wonders. Among some of the important attractions that can be seen along the river are the Orchid Farm, the Snake Farm, the Wat Sai Floating Market and the Royal Barge Museum. During the late 1700’s the canals that extended out form the Chao Pharaya River were the major form of transport in Bangkok, however with urbanization it has lost favour with the locals, yet it still remains an important for the transportation of goods and freight. Located close to the Chao Pharaya is a Bangkok hotel known as the The Peninsula Bangkok, this hotel provides great access to the city. It is also one of the most popular Bangkok River Hotels .
