People should not find it surprising that the only difference between a 500 lumen flashlight and a 900 lumen flashlight concerns their runtime. But isn’t the runtime measured in minutes? If so, how could lumens give information about the runtime of a particular flashlight? Those are definitely very interesting questions, which is why we will answer them as a beginning. First of all, it should be made clear that there are two main ways for giving information about the runtime of rechargeable battery flashlights – minutes and lumens. But for some reason, many manufacturers do not like to give information about the runtime in minutes. More than probably, that is because rechargeable battery flashlights have a serious drawback – it is the short runtime. So manufacturers like to think that mentioning just lumens will confuse the customers! However, they should not feel confused since it is very easy to figure out what runtime (in minutes) of a 500 lumen flashlight or a 900 lumen flashlight is. There is just one very simple-to-follow rule of thumb – 100 lumens equal to around 10 minutes of runtime. Once the users know that, they can easily calculate that a 500 lumen flashlight can be used between 50 and 60 minutes before it needs to be charged again. And the 900 lumen flashlight would be able to provide light for around 90 minutes before the battery is low again. Though those are some of the best and most reliable rechargeable flashlights on the market, everyone should agree on the fact that their runtime is still quite short. After all, if there is a power outage for several hours, 500 lumen flashlights and 900 lumen flashlights will certainly not quite reliable. Of course, it should also be mentioned that besides that single drawback, the 500 lumen flashlights and 900 lumen flashlights can offer many advantages. For instance, it should definitely be kept in mind that once they are purchased, there will be hardly any expense needed. They do not use batteries! That means that money will not be spent on buying a couple of 1.5V batteries every time when the previous set goes dead. Anyway, if there are people who are still too much worried about the short runtime, there is a smart way to cope with the problem. Purchasing two 900 lumen flashlights, for example, would result in increasing the runtime up to 3 hours of constant usage.
