People these days are more out of shape than ever before. To a large extent, this is due to the abundance of cheap food that is not very healthy. Another large part of the problem, though, is that people just do not get as much exercise as they should. They spend all day long sitting in an office, not moving. They then drive home in a car. They get out and walk to the house, only to sit down on the couch and watch television. One man, named Joe Robert, did this for twenty years before he found an exercise program that helped him get back in shape again. When he went to school, Joe did not need a gym membership. He played hockey and was one of the best centers on his team. He was at the rink almost every night. He would come in on days when he did not have practice just so that he could skate around. This helped him to stay in shape no matter what type of food he had for dinner, so he never really thought about his eating habits at all. When he was done with school though, he was not nearly good enough to play at the professional level. He had the will, but he did not have the natural talent that was needed. Instead, he took a job as a financial consultant for a local bank. This was a good job. It allowed him to use numbers, something that he excelled at, and it allowed him to make a lot of money. He started staying late at the office, and this is when his weight went up dramatically. As soon as he noticed what was happening to his body, Joe went and got a gym membership. He started to eat better and he forced himself to go to the gym two or three times a week. While he was there, he would just do a few of the exercises that he remembered from when he played hockey. These helped to some extent, but he still weighed more than he wanted to weigh. He needed something more. He needed something that would push him and force him to work hard the way that his coach had in school. In the end, the real thing that saved him was an exercise program that his gym membership offered. This gave him specific things that he had to do. He did these four times a week. The biggest thing that it did for him was that it did not let him quit when he was tired. There were always more things to be done. His spirit of competition, something that had been honed and shaped when he was playing hockey, drove him to always want to finish the program for the day. Within weeks, he started to see his weight fall and his body felt better than ever.
