With improvements in technology from the 1930s, lots of new technologies have been developed in the field of mining to help in explorations. These technologies have hence led to new and effective geophysical instruments that give the explorer exact data as they go about their activities. With each piece of equipment, there are unique methods used to explore minerals. The method are used also do to mapping of the area a mineral is and to know exactly how deep the mineral is and the kind of rocks that is in the area. The first method used in mineral exploration is the electrical resistivity meter. This method uses electrical resistivity of an area to obtain data on that area. The method involves inserting some metal probes into the ground and measuring the amount on resistance between the probes. The data collected is very critical as it will tell the experts the kind of material in an area as each material has unique electric property. Another method that is commonly used is the Electromagnetic Conductivity. Although this method has results comparable to resistance meters, it is however less sensitive as compared to the resistivity method. The main advantage of this method is that it does not require direct contact with the ground. This means that the process is faster. Ground penetrating radar is also another method used in mineral exploration. It this method an electromagnetic pulse is send into the ground by equipment much like the air radar for aircraft. The pulse is then reflected back by those different layers that are caused by change in ground properties. The data is then analyzed and the experts determine f the area has minerals or not. The time take by the reflected impulse is used to calculate depth. The last very important thing when it comes to analyzing the data is the highly developed software that is currently used in the field. Each method has specially developed software to be used with them. This software is very complicated and has ensured the success of explorers.
