There are two different types of pocket watch that is available in the market. The first model of the watch is known as the open face model and the other one is known as the close face model. The open face model of the watch is such a model in which the dial is placed on top of the watch and the face of the watch is such that it is exposed very close to the face of the watch. This type of watch comes with a protective case which is used to cover the lens of the watch. The watch designers have designed the watch in such a manner so that no damage is caused on the watch and also it protects the dial of the watch from any scratch mark. In the earlier days this type of watch was worn by the rail worker and this type of watch at that time used to come with a hinge. In this type of watch when the watch strikes 9 on the cover of the watch then the latches of the watch are at the position of 3. This type of pocket watch runs on battery. Because of this reason based on your choice you can either go for the open face watch or the closed face watch. But there is some variety of the pocket watch which comes with different movements which is different from the other watch. The key set movement of this type of watch is similar to the movement of the watch which was found in the 15th century. The main advantage of the this type of the pocket watch is that you can manually set the time of the watch and to set the time of the watch you have to wind the watch too. Some people find the movement of this type of watch very irritating because when they change the time, then they also to set the key and the second movement of the watch too. But most of the people used to prefer the vintage watch as this type of watch does not run on battery like the pocket watch. But the main disadvantage of the vintage watch is that in it you cannot set the time of the watch. But most of the modern design watch comes with the automatic time setting capability where you need not have to manually set the time. Also the pocket watch is not damaged when it falls from the hand.
