Has the idea of a "resource box" seemed so complicated and mysterious that you've put off writing articles because you didn't know how to create one? If so, you're not alone. I want to assure you though that it really is a paper tiger! Once you learn how absolutely simple creating a resource box is, you'll be ready to charge forward and submit articles to your heart's content! First of all, let's clarify what a resource box is. When you're learning how to submit articles, in addition to writing an article you will also create a resource box. The resource box is also know as an 'author bio'. It's the place where you offer additional resources to the information found in the article. This is the one spot in your article submission where you can talk about your business and products and try to get readers to click through to your website. It's also the place where you'll put the link to your website. You can think of it this way--The article is for the reader, but the resource box is for the author. That's why it's important that you carefully construct this author bio area so that you'll get the maximum benefit from it. Here's what to put in your resource box: 1 - Your name. This isn't required, but it's a good idea. Putting your name in your resource box ensures that your name will be associated with the article. It also helps fulfill the purpose of the 'author bio'--it's hard to make an author bio without referencing the author! 2 - A short bio on yourself and your business. This will likely be just a sentence or two. Most publishers put a limit on the number of characters you can have in your resource box. If you limit your resource box to 400 characters, that should make it fit within the requirements of most directories. Most author bios are written in the third person--you write like you're writing about someone else. If you want to see some examples of author bios, just go into a bookstore and look at the back sleeve of pretty much any book. Include bio information that is related to your niche or your business. You only have a limited amount of space, so it's more effective to reveal information that will lend to your credibility as an authority on your topic. Why should a reader listen to you? You might also include information that makes your business unique. If the article is on the same general topic as your website (and it should be), then the reader of the article may very likely be interested in a business like yours. Here's your chance to make your pitch! But be careful--don't make it too 'sales-y. That can be a real turnoff to a reader. Instead just state one or two things that set your business apart from the competition. 3 - Give the reader a reason to click the link to your site. Why should the reader want to go to your website? What do you have there waiting for them that's worth their time and effort? This is what I like to call a 'resource box lure'. It's the carrot that you dangle to inspire the reader the take action of visiting your website. 4 - Give a link to your website. You can give the written out URL--you know, with the http at the beginning and the website address after. If it is the full URL, then on most directories it will create a clickable link to your website. You can also create an anchor text link at most directories. This involves using HTML code to make certain words in your resource box into the clickable link that leads back to your website. The words that you link should be one of your keyword phrases, a phrase that you would like your website to rank for in search engines. Creating your first resource box can be a fun experience--it's really not as intimidating as you might imagine. Just use this article to make each element of your author bio, and you will create a resource box that lends credibility to you as an author and also generates visitors to your website.
