The herb resveratrol is a substance that can give a person some nifty health advantages. Resveratrol comes from a few different plants. Resveratrol can come from blueberries, chocolate, peanuts, strawberries, and of course grapes and red wine. The purpose of resveratrol in the plant world is to protect the herb from various attacks. Hype started to grow with this nutrient in the early 1900's when A doctor called Sinclair and a few others tested it on animals and discovered it could enable them to live longer. What is somewhat exciting is that studies and various tests all confirm that resveratrol can extend the life of some of these organisms by as high as 70%. Caloric restriction is one of the ideas on how resveratrol can enable a animal to prolong it's life. Caloric restriction or CR is a term that defines a living organisms that restricts their calories that they eat from food but they still get all the crucial vitamins and minerals that their body truly needs. When someone eats less calories they create less free radicals and toxins and thus prevent damage to their body and this leads them to be able to live longer. Another thing that resveratrol can do to a person is help prevent and fight cancer. How this herb fights off this ailment is because it can enable a cancerous cell to create suicide. Remember this nutrients job in nature is to fight off toxins and viruses. Studies also have confirmed this on rats when they gave the animal a substance to create cancer and resveratrol was able to fight it off. One of the biggest ways that makes resveratrol a great herb is because it can help stop heart disease in developing in a person and this is the number one cause of death in the U.S. How this nutrient can do this is because it can increase the amount of good cholesterol someone has in their system which is called HDL cholesterol. Also the antioxidants in resveratrol can help give a protective barrier when it comes to the artery walls someone has in their system.
