All at Global Radio (Classic FM, LBC, Heart FM and Capital FM) were in for a rare treat this week when Dame Helen Mirren herself graced the building with her presence. Classic FM teamed up with Optimum Releasing to promote Michael Hoffman’s The Last Station, starring Dame Helen Mirren and James McAvoy. Managing the promotion was Global Radio’s Michael Harbron who is responsible for the Business Solutions team within the group. Not one to miss an opportunity, Michael Harbron is gaining quite the popularity amongst the smaller film industry and his ability to garnish PR out of the toughest of celebrity! He has introduced countless promotional and barter options throughout the group and his name is well known should you want a ticket to a premiere! A source in Global added “Michael Harbron is something of an enigma. He runs a slick operation here, and every time there seems to be a premiere garnishing outside, we’re all wondering if Harbron has been working on it. Similar to each of our brands, if we hear any of the presenters promoting something, no doubt Harbron has talked them into doing it! This means two things, probably a huge pay cheque for Global Radio and free tickets, Im always on his back for the latter!” Speaking at the premiere of The Last Station in Mayfair last night, Harbron commented “Dame Helen was just stunning, I actually felt a little intimidated in her presence. I offered her a cup of tea when she arrived and nearly had a heart attack when there was no milk in the fridge! Every programmer wanted a piece of her too! We operate 7 radio stations in that building and they all wanted her. Vultures” He said with a grin on his face. This was just the latest in a long line of promotions Michael Harbron has harnessed for Global Radio. He was recently responsible for one of Classic FM’s most called in competitions in it’s history for another classic, Creation. Allegedly Harbron brokered a deal with Target Media and Optimum Releasing whereby Mirren ran a series of interviews across 5 of the groups Radio stations in return for an undisclosed amount in returned advertising revenue. Harbron didn’t comment on this speculation, but whether his charm, skill or sheer business savvy helped close the deal, it is known that all 5 interviews went viral and were used throughout the groups entire 75 radio stations for news feeds that day.
