It happens to a lot of people, you’re using your phone and then suddenly you fumble it and it falls into a puddle, the bath or even the most unfortunate eventuality, the toilet. No matter what you try, your iPhone is just never the same again – it might not turn on, certain apps won’t load etc. The warranty of your iPhone doesn’t cover water damage, but traditionally it’s been easy enough for a lot of iPhone owners to get their water damaged phones replaced by claiming that it’s the result of some other fault. However, a newly discovered Apple Patent application describes a system that would make it easier for Apple Store employees to spot a water damaged phone so that they can deny you a replacement. If this patent were accepted it would make it much more difficult for iPhone owners to disguise water damage as shop assistants at Apple Stores would be able to diagnose phone failure as a result of water damage much more easily. This is why it will be more important than ever to know how to restore a water damage iPhone. One of the best methods to treat a damaged iPhone is by using packets of Silica gel. Silica gel is a moisture-absorbent substance and will be able to draw water out of your iPhone. If you keep the packaging for electronic products such as cameras and TVs you will likely have a few Silica gel packets knocking about the house. If not, then you can often find it at arts & craft stores as they are often used for drying flowers. Otherwise, you can order it online from a variety of retailers. Once you have some of the gel, the next step is to pack your iPhone away in a sealed plastic amongst several packets of the Silica gel. Store the plastic bag in a dry place for at least three days as this should ensure that all the moisture is drawn out from the electronic innards of the iPhone and to perform effective water damage restoration. If you can’t get Silica gel quickly, place your iPhone in a bag of uncooked rice and reseal it as this will keep it as dry as possible in the meantime. The final step is to attempt to perform a complete system restore on your iPhone. This will provide you with the best chance of getting the iPhone back to its pre-water damage working state. By following these simple steps, your iPhone should hopefully be back up and running without you needing to buy a replacement.
