When you think about silent panic alarms, you might not automatically think about home security systems. Instead, you might conjure up an image of a bank teller hitting a button under the counter to activate a silent alarm when being robbed. Certainly, that is one use for a panic alarm, but it’s not the only one. If you are ever in an emergency situation in your home, a panic alarm can come in extremely handy. Residential panic alarms have recently been marketed to elderly people who are committed to living on their own but want the security of knowing someone can come help them in the event of an emergency. These panic alarms are worn by the homeowner as a necklace or bracelet and if they need emergency assistance, all they have to do is push the button and they are talking with a representative of the monitoring company who can then send help. Anyone who has elderly loved ones who are living by themselves should invest in a panic alarm system like this. Most home security systems have panic alarms built into their units. Usually, you can just enter a specific code into the keypad that alerts the authorities that something is wrong at your house. This is particularly useful if you are being held at gunpoint and told to enter the code to turn the alarm off. Instead, you enter your panic code, the alarm stays quiet, but the emergency personnel are notified and dispatched to your house right away. Some alarm companies are also offering a wristwatch-type device or a keychain device that comes with a panic button. These are nice in the event that you are outside of your home when the emergency occurs. You simply press the panic button on your device and your alarm is activated. In most cases, these devices simply sound the siren instead of sending a silent alarm, but the intent is the same. The sound will hopefully scare off any perpetrators, notify your neighbors that something is wrong and call the monitoring company to dispatch emergency personnel. While it isn’t necessary to have a panic button as part of your home security system, it is a useful addition to it that might end up saving your life. You can even teach your kids to use this button if they ever feel like they are in danger in your home. This involves pressing a single button instead of entering complicated codes or passwords.
