Tying a bandana isn't as simple as it looks. Depending on the style you're trying to pull off you might have to practice over and over again. As all men know if they've knotted a tie before, learning to make fancy knots sucks. If you're a guy, you'll want to wrap the cloth around your head tightly, it will protect you from the sun and wind. If you're a woman and have long hair (also works for men who have long hair) you'll want to make sure you're hair aren't getting stuck and mixed up. The bandana can be a cool accessory if used properly but can also look out dated if the fabric used is too funky. Try to avoid using rainbow coloured cloths or hippie-like designs, unless you can associate yourself with the style in question. An important hygienic advice is to wash your bandana regularly, regardless of how you tie it. Because you wear it on your head, sweat has a tendency to make it dirty faster than regular accessories. Simply washing it with the rest of your wardrobe will too. If you want to limit the damage caused by washing it, you can always hand washing. If the smell of sweat remains you might be better off letting it soak for a while in detergent. Lastly, it is important to remember that you're not limited to wearing a bandana on the head. You may fold it nicely and wrap it around your wrist or simply use it as a tissue to blow your nose like they did in the old days. Never forget to have backup bandanas for special occasions, whether it be a walk in the park or a sun bathing session on the beach; bandanas can be just as handy as sun screen and water in the desert. Next time you need to tie one up, just try hard and soon you'll be able to do it blindfolded (possibly by a bandana). Learning how to tie a bandana isn't always an easy task.
