One of the greatest challenges many individuals report with any weight loss plan is remaining consistent. Losing more than a few pounds requires long-term planning, goal-setting and most of all, consistency. One pound of fat is equivalent to 3500 calories. In order to reduce your body fat by one pound, you must burn 3500 more calories than you consume. Many successful dieters have found that keeping a mobile food journal simplifies the process of losing weight for them. By taking advantage of the smart phone you likely already have in your pocket you can plan your meals and snacks and enter the food you have consumed so that you’re always aware of your caloric intake. Using a mobile food journal inspires conscious eating. By making a habit of entering foods into the application as you consume them you take that extra second to think about your choice and to ask yourself if it is the best option at that moment. You may also find other trends in your eating and exercise patterns. Maybe on the days you workout, you feel better when you have a bigger breakfast. Are you eating more when you’re upset? What activities accompany eating for you? Do you eat more when you’re with friends or alone? This data will help inform the new habits you are establishing. As exercise improves mood, increases energy and reinforces good sleep habits, it’s a healthy part of any diet plan. But, exercise alone isn’t sufficient to lose weight. You have to consistently consume fewer calories than you burn. By accessing an extensive food database, online and mobile applications can take the guess work out of food selection as well as diet planning and can be a useful tool in your weight loss plan.
