Kodaikanal is one of the most visited hill stations in India which is located on the beautiful Pali Hills of Dindigaldistrict in the state of Tamilnadu. Known as the Princess of Hill Stations, Kodaikanal like the other hill stations in India is liked by the tourists because of the pleasant temperate climate and scenic beauty the place offers. Tourism being the main activity in Kodaikanal, a major source of revenue comes from the hospitality sector.

There is a considerable increase in the number of tourists visiting Kodaikanal during the time around December, when the valleys are blue in color with the blooming of Kurinji flowers. The Kurinji flowers are famous for its unique phenomenon of blooming only once in 12 years. Kodaikanal is frequented by tourists all throughout the yearand is renowned for its educational institutions of international repute.

Kodaikanal offers a wide range of accommodation from budget Kodaikanal Hotels to luxurious ones. Though thereis good amount of competition in the hospitality sector in Kodaikanal, shortage of accommodation do occur during the peak seasons. Prior booking of accommodations necessary and advisable before visiting this rather crowded hill station of Tamilnadu.The names of a few budget Kodaikanal Hotels are Kodai Retreat, Greenlands Youth Hostel, Hotel Astoria, Hotel Bala International, New gold Nest, Hotel Spring Valley, Lilly’s Valley Resort and hotel Gurupriya. Hotel RJ Inn, Misty Mountain, Kodai Resort Hotel, Snooze Inn, Villa Retreat, Valley View Inn and Bhadra homes are the main mid-range Kodaikanal Hotels that provide good services and facilities.

Carlton Hotel is the only five star accommodations available in Kodaikanal. This is a hotel with a great view of the Kodai Lake. The Carlton is near to the city center and is surrounded by restaurants and small shops in addition to the local market. Kodaikanal Hotels can be categorized according to the areas in Kodaikanal as Naidupuram Hotels, Prakashpuram Hotels, Sivandi Road Hotels, Laws Ghat Roads Hotel and Coaker’s Walk Hotel. Hill Country Holiday Resort, Quality Inn Sabari Resort and Zest Coaker’s villa re the three 4 star Kodaikanal Hotels of good reputation. The daily room rate differs from rupees 3000 to rupees 6000. Many of these hotels provide good Kodaikanal packages that take tourists to the sites in Kodaikanal with minimum time and less money. Berijam Lake, Coakers Walk, Bryant Park, Kodai Lake, Kurinjiandavar Temple, Suicide Point, Pillar Rocks, Silent Valley View, Devil’s Kitchen, Guna Caves, Pine Forest, Shanthi Valley and Silver Cascade are the main areas of sightseeing in Kodaikanal. The closest airports to Kodaikanal are at Trichy, Madurai and Coimbatore. Kodai Road railway station is the nearest railway station from where one has to travel by road to reach Kodaikanal. There are a number of bus services from different parts of the state to Kodaikanal.
