Like many other people, I often ask myself one question: What is the meaning of life? I could not get a specific answer in the past, but now I think the meaning of life is to make contributions to society for our whole life. Last Saturday, my friend and I went to visit famous Gulangyu Island, off shore the city of Xiamen, Fujian, China. As we know, Xiamen is famous as a beautiful sea garden and has been attracting visitors all over the world. Hence, we are not surprised to see such a large number of people on the Gulangyu Island. Like other tourist attractions, it has many attractive scenery, buildings and delicious food, such as oyster omelet, pies, dried fish and so on. But you will find that it is quite unique because of its rich history and culture. On your way to visit different places, you will come across many visitors, who follow the guide and listen to him carefully. Every guide will tell stories about different scenic spots in detail, so visitors will have a good understand of them. Among these scenic spots, what impressed me was the tomb of Lin Qiaozhi-a female doctor. Born in a Christian family of Gulangyu Island, her father was a graduate from a Singapore university and was engaged in teaching and translation. Hence, he had an open mind and thought he should educate girls too. Unfortunately, when Lin Qiaozhi was 5 years old, her mother died of beast cancer and then she was brought up by her brothers and sister-in-law. One day, when she had a class about knitting, her teacher praised her that her hands were swift to be suitable for being a doctor. Inspired by her teacher, she decided to be a surgeon so as to save more and more people. After getting the docter’s degree, she became a gynecologist in Beijing Xiehe Hospital, where she worked day and night and was busy in saving patients no matter in freezing winter or in sultry summer. She was so absorbed in her job that she never married or gave birth to children. Instead, she used her wise hands to welcome more than 50000 babies. Finally, one half of her cremains were spread into the sea, and the others were left in her hometown. Finally, do you want to know about her tomb or useful stones? If you do, you can get much material from stonebtb.
