There are five main steps involved in writing a book. 1. You need to start by planning your book. This is one task that is frequently skipped over or done poorly. The result is always negative. It's in this task that you're going to decide exactly what you want to produce. You'll need to identify exactly who your target reader is and you'll pinpoint their pain points and problems. You'll also decide how to solve those problems and how to guide them to the solution. But beyond the obvious decisions about the target reader you'll also need to decide what the book will look like. Will it be an e - Book? Will it be an executive or popular length book? Will it be full sized book? Or will it be textbook length? Will it be a workbook? Will it be a manual? Will it be a why-to or how-to? Before you can begin writing your book you need a clear vision of what it will be when you finish. 2. The next step is to design the book in detail. A book is a complex writing task. In order to have any chance of finishing you need to know what each page and paragraph will say. You also need to know that the book will make sense. To do that you need to design the structure. What chapters will it have? What topics will be in that chapter? What paragraphs will you write about the topic? 3. The next step involved in writing a book is to perform a structural edit. In this type of edit you are checking to ensure that the book makes sense. Do the pieces fit together? Does the explanation go from point to point or is it jumping all over? In some writing systems this waits until the writing has been done. But if you've designed the book in detail, that's neither necessary nor wise. Better to check the structure while it's still easy to fix the structure. 4. The next step involved in writing a book is the one that is most feared. It's sitting down and actually putting words to paper. It's writing. But if you did a real detail design earlier you'll have nothing to fear. Think of the topics in your list as PowerPoint slides. All you have to do in this step is talk for 1-2 minutes on each topic. Start with the first topic and continue until you've finished. You'll have a book much sooner than you thought possible. 5. The final step involved in writing a book is proofreading and grammatical editing. This is the step where you'll put the final polish on your book and turn it into a book that's worthy of publication. custom research paper
