Parenting is one of the most important and difficult jobs adults take on. It does not have to be made any harder, though, by trying to think up new answers to every question. Parents and childcare professionals have shared so much information on the subject of child-rearing that there is plenty of good advice to take in. Education isn't just for school. To teach your child to value his or her education make a daily ritual of doing homework together. Use this as valuable together time, and the two of you will grow closer, and you will have established in your child a lifelong love for learning. One of the most important pieces of parenting advice is to remain consistent. If you reprimand a child once, you must do it every time that incident occurs. If you praise a child once, the same is true. Lack of consistency makes a child feel insecure and confuses them. Consistent behavior does the opposite. Despite its misleading name, baby aspirin should not be given to babies or children under any circumstances. Administering aspirin to children has been linked to medical problems. The government has advised that aspirin never be given to children. Instead, to treat the flu or other illnesses, give ibuprofen or acetaminophen. One way to keep your children happy and avoid disappointments on either side of the parenting equation is to make sure they thoroughly understand your expectations. You can not reasonably expect a child to meet your goals or obey your rules if you do not communicate them clearly. Confusion can be a legitimate excuse for poor behavior if you do not make an effort at clear communication. When birthdays or other gift giving holidays come around, instead of taking your child shopping, help them make a present. Not only will your child get to be creative and give a unique gift, but you'll get to spend quality time together. This is especially good if the present is for the child's other parent or another relative. Make snack time healthy by eliminating junk-food from your home. You can satisfy your kid's sweet tooth with more nutritious fare such as, frozen yogurt and fresh fruit. Make food fun by creating outrageous names for healthy snack; for example, ants on a log is just celery sticks filled with peanut butter and topped with raisins. To foster an environment where reading is encouraged, make sure a child is surrounded with books from a young age. For infants, have books with mirrors and textures that they can enjoy without language skills. For older children, have books with lots of pictures, and read to them often. A love of reading is formed very early, so it's important to always create a reading environment. Buying toys at yard sales is a great way to save money on toys your kids will only use for a little while. While most toys are okay second-hand, stay away from buying second-hand cribs. Many of the old cribs have the drop-down style, which has been proved to cause injury and death to newborns. So while its alright to stock up on books and blocks, steer clear of the cribs. If you are bringing home a newborn, wash your hands often. Ask everyone else who holds the baby to do the same. Newborn babies have not yet developed their immune system. They can easily catch many illnesses because of their weakened state. You can help by making sure that those who handle them are as germ free as possible. If your child is sick, especially with a fever or cough, it is crucial that you not send them to school. Not only does your child need to stay home and rest when they are sick, but sending them to school can increase the chances of your child spreading their illness to other kids. For children who have a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep, it is advised that you do not allow them to nap. Napping will make them less tired when it comes to bedtime. Instead, let them go to sleep at an early hour even if it means that they will wake up earlier. Reading all you can about parenting is an awesome tool to use in becoming a better parent. Other people's experiences may not mirror yours, but they can bring insight into a variety of different techniques which can be applied to your parenting problems. Keep reading and learning and you'll always be the best parent you can be! Just have a new born and looking for good baby products for him/her? Take a look at kidco.
