When you're new to article marketing and you're still feeling a bit clumsy at writing articles on a regular basis, you can easily look to more advanced article marketers and forget that at one time they were wearing your "beginner" shoes. They made silly mistakes just the same as you make silly mistakes from time to time. They have gotten frustrated the same way you get frustrated during the learning process. I recently realized that I have been writing articles for more than a decade, and when thinking back on my journey I recall some major lessons I've learned along the way. I hope that in relaying these lessons it saves you from having to experience them yourselves: Lesson 1 - It is stressful to write against a ticking time clock. When you first start to submit articles, one of the first things you may realize is that it takes a good bit of time to write an article. Because writing is a time intensive process, you will often see people bragging about how little time it takes them to write an article or some special "quickie" article writing technique that they've discovered that allows them to generate content like a machine. I fell into that trap myself--always trying to write faster and faster and thinking that if an article took longer that I wasn't "improving" as a writer. Well, the truth is that writing takes time, and each article will take a different amount of time. The way to judge whether you're improving in your writing is by the quality of the articles themselves, rather than by the time it takes you to write them. If you push yourself to write faster and faster, it's just going to stress you out, and the quality of your writing may suffer. Lesson 2 - The more you write the easier it gets. While it's not fun to push yourself to become a better writer, you will probably notice yourself naturally improving with the more articles that you write. That's just common sense--if you do something a lot, chances are that you'll get good at it. When you first start writing articles, it will seem hard. Most people aren't used to writing articles until they start article marketing. But just because you're not used to it at the beginning doesn't mean that you won't improve as time goes by. Stick with it--as with any new skill, you will find that the writing gets easier the more you do it. Lesson 3 - Don't try to learn everything at once. Article marketing is an interesting and complicated field, and there are all sorts of things that you can learn about to improve your success. Some of the more technical aspects (such as keywords and SEO) might be totally beyond you right now. You may feel like there's so much to learn that you'll never catch up. I've seen people drive themselves crazy trying to learn everything there is to know about article marketing and writing articles in the first week! They try to take in all the knowledge, and then they get frustrated and give up. It really helps to take a long range view when it comes to marketing with articles. You learn the basics first, then as you get comfortable with those you move on to more advanced topics. Lesson 4 - Teaching is everything in article marketing. If there is one thing to know about writing articles, it's that you need to become a teacher. Every article that you write serves the purpose of educating your readers on a certain aspect of your niche. The articles aren't really for showing how much you know and impressing people. Rather, they are for increasing the knowledge of your readers in a way that they can easily understand. When you stay focused on teaching your readers in each article, you'll go a long way toward creating content that stands the test of time and also helps to market your website. These four lessons cover very common issues that I have experience myself and that I see others struggling with as well. I hope that it saves you from having to struggle for very long in these areas. If you take these four lessons to heart, you will have a much easier time marketing with articles.
