John Abraham's Jhootha Hi Sahi Movie - Music Review

Music,Entertainment,Recreation & Leisure
Jhootha Hi Sahi is the story of a shy man who lies his way through a love affair over the phone, the film features John Abraham and Pakhi, Tyrewala’s wife in the lead along with an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Raghu Ram, the goateed baldie from MTV Roadies. In Jhootha Hi Sahi, music is given by A R Rahman.

Movie Synopsis:

What if you had a secret hotline to the heart of the girl you love? If you could read her deepest thoughts, know her every emotion and manipulate her every choice. And all you had to do was lie a little; well, not that little.

The kind of lie that, if she knew, would break her heart. What would you do? Would you give up your secret? Would you hang up the hotline? Or would you lie? Lie for love?

Music Review:

In Jhootha Hi Sahi, music is given by A R Rahman.

A R Rahman is getting a lot of flak for his un-inspiring Commonwealth theme song, but that has not dimmed his spirit, and he’s coming around to prove that he's still groovy with Jhootha Hi Sahi. Plug in.

First, ‘Cry, Cry’ Rahman insists. Last time it was ‘Hans do na Aditi’ in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa. Now this, a melancholic version in the same ditty tone, but not so much actually to make you cry, but wistful.

Does it remind you of ‘Jaane kyon log pyar karte hain?’ Rashid Ali, who sounds a little like a thin Adnan Sami and Shreya Ghoshal give the song a playful verve, which will stay for a while.

‘Maiya Yashoda’ by Chinmayi and Javed Ali is to use the afore mentioned word – playful, what else? ‘Natkhat’ is the song’s mood and works as a comic rendition, a situational track that will come alive on screen.

Karthik’s ‘Hello Hello’ has an interesting, twisted hook. The exceptional use of violins over an electronic score underlines its appeal, both moody, and dark, and yet fleshed out to reach out through its ‘telephone dhun.’

Sonu Nigam’s ‘Do Nishaniyaan’ is about as ‘phoney’ as it can get, getting all dew-eyed about phones. Use the cord to wring your neck (don’t try this at home).

Shreya Ghoshal’s ‘Pam Para’ works at best, as a nonsense song. It wants to be West Side Story and does mix a few genres, but never once goes full-throttle for the whole stage. Boils down to being cutesy, and that will show in how the filmmaker has conceptualized the song.

Vijay Yesudas’s ‘I’ll be Waiting’ is a dreamboat of a song, in the style of a Frank Sinatra noir tipped ballad. Its simply gorgeous. Women are going to swoon, men are going to serenade, this is a song for love’s everlasting romance. God, I make that sound like a greeting card!

The last track, ‘Call Me Dil’ by Rashid Ali is something you’d hear a boy band sing, ‘Call me Dil, call me baybay.’ Ya, it’s that cool. Themes of love, truths and lies are discussed through smoke and mirrors. An ice-cream cone puppy love song, this one will definitely become a ring tone favourite.

The songs in Jhootha Hi Sahi , are vintage Rahman, in the sense that they do not appeal on first listen, and with time, will grow into your i-pod essential, so keep listening to them for a while. They’re not loud, have a mellow softness, and introduce no new sounds, yet, a familiar acquaintance can be made over some time, sach hai yehi.
