A very popular attraction in Palolem is dolphin spotting. Tourists are taken in small boats inside the sea, which is abundant in dolphins and from here one can spot dolphins jumping right out of the water, sometimes in a pod of two or more. Palolem is situated in the South Goa District and is famous for the Palolem beach, a beautiful crescent shaped beach. Palolem can easily be reached from the capital city of Panjim by a 2 hour drive. The beach is famous for a stone sculpture created by an American conceptual and land artist Jacek Tylicki on an adjoining island and is called the monkey stone. Inscriptions on this sculpture reads 'Give if you can - Take if you have to'. Cotigao Wildlife Park and Spice Farms are two interesting attractions in Palolem that can be visited by tourists. Dudhsagar Falls considered one among the world’s 100 highest falls is a major trekking destination near Palolem. A large cup shaped rock popularly called the Pandavas Drum is yet another attraction here. This drum has a very interesting feature. On hitting at a particular spot with stones, the drum produces a resonating sound. Being a small place, it is easy to get around on foot. A walk to the Butterfly island during low tide is a must do activity here. This beautiful island has lots to offer the adventurous. Its many nature trails and rocky peripheries provide the perfect opportunity to be thoroughly explored. Butterfly Beach is very scenic and can be easily reached by boat. The beach here is not ideal for swimming since it is very steep but is a good spot for diving. Further ahead is the Honeymoon Beach which is a small and secluded beach here. The Palolem beach is very commercialised with huts and eateries overcrowding the beach. One can find people partying into the wee hours of the morning on beautiful moonlit nights. Situated near to Palolem beach is Columb Bay and further ahead is Patnem beach, both of which have a variety of accommodation options. A good way to spend time here is to hire a boat for about an hour during evening when the weather is also pleasant. The town of Karwar in northern Karnataka is a short drive away from Palolem and is worth a day’s trip. The drive to Karwar is rather pleasant and offers brilliant scenery just before entering Karwar on the Kali Bridge. Other interesting activities one can indulge in are taking a boat ride with local fishermen, spending a day at the quiet Agonda beach and attending a silent noise part at Neptunes Point where crowds are handed individual wireless headsets to dance to their favourite tunes.
