Favorite family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation make wonderful gifts especially for family members and close friends. These wonderful recipes are part of a family’s heritage and they should be preserved for future generations. One way to make sure these recipes live on is to put together a collection of your own family's recipes. Homemade recipes that have been prepared with love in decades past can be still be savored and appreciated today. A great gift idea is to consider putting together a box of family recipe cards as a unique and special gift. You can buy really pretty predecorated recipe cards to print or write the recipes on, or you can always use plain index cards that you can decorate if you want. Last of all you can purchase the appropriate size recipe box for the cards that reflects the style of the person you are giving the recipes to, then buy or create dividers to separate all of them into different categories. All families have favorite family recipes that have been passed from generation to generation. Some are handwritten on recipe cards or on scrap pieces of paper while others are tucked between the pages of old, worn cookbooks that are slowly falling apart. Besides the recipe boxes, family cookbooks are another great gift idea for friends and family members. They can be given for all different occasions, including Mother's Day, weddings, graduations, birthdays, and Christmas, just to name a few. When children grow up and move away from home they can still enjoy eating the food they have grown to love if they have copies of favorite family recipes to enjoy. If they should marry, they can pass down the recipes to their children who can do the same and on and on. A cookbook made up of favorite recipes can be put together in a variety of ways and in all shapes and sizes. The more you personalize it the better so be sure to include who you got the recipes from. Cookbooks that have copies of the original handwritten letters and recipe cards are very special. The cookbook you put together can be as simple as handwriting or typing your recipes on regular 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper and punching holes in them to slip into a three-ring binder. You can even protect them with inexpensive report covers. If you have a color printer, you can make beautifully designed family recipe pages that can even be laminated to hold up over time.
