Pushkar is a quaint hamlet situated in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Pushkar is an important destination in the tourist map of India due to its deep roots in the culture and religion of Rajasthan. Pushkar, bounded by tall hills and the golden desert , experience great hustle and bustle all round the year owing to the fairs, festivals and other celebrations. Pushkar is considered among the oldest cities of India, which has been referred in the epics Ramayana and Mahabharatha. According to the epics, Pushkar carry religious significance. It is believed that the tears from an eye of Lord Shiva formed the pond at Pushkar, on seeing the charred body of Goddess Sati. The legend goes that the pond at Pushkar also has a twin, formed by the tears of the other eye, located at Katas Raj Temple in the Chakwal district of Pakistan. Another legend states that Lord Brahma when killed the demon Vajranabha with lotus flower, one of the petals fell to the ground creating a pond.
