Shimoga is a town situated in the Shimoge district of Karnataka. Known also as 'Shiva-mogga', Shimoga is acclaimed as the 'rice bowl of Karnataka'. Some of the avian species found here are White Pebis, Stone Bill, Egret, Cormorant, Snake bird, Heron etc. Shimoga also offers trekking opportunities to the sports enthusiasts. The monolithic rock formation, the Kundadri hill, situated enroute to Agumbe from Thirthahalli, is a must-visit for trekkers. Adventure enthusiasts often take up trekking through the natural trails to reach atop the hill. On the hilltop you can find Parshwanath Chaityalaya, an ancient stone structure. Honnemaradu is yet another adventure destination, where you can find various opportunities for water sports.
