It is safe to say that social media is around and it's not going to leave anytime soon. More and more companies are beginning to see that there is value in adding to their marketing strategy. But many are unsure exactly where to begin or how to develop a social media strategy. When social media is used correctly a company may engage clients in new ways, develop new connections while communicating with the clients you already have. Developing a Strategy There is a simple strategy for social media inclusion that only has around 6 steps and seems to be easy to develop. The very first step is basically just "Listening". Go online and listen to the conversations. What are individuals saying about your company and your brand? What are the tone of the conversations - are any heated? Where Does your Audience Hangout Online By listening to conversations you will begin to decide where your audience is. A great place to begin is by starting with blogs. Technorati is a search engine for blogs and is the tool that can help you search for blog postings having content related to your niche. Another great place to gain insights into conversations that are in real-time is Twitter. Using the advanced Twitter search tool you can isolate specific conversations and follow them. A word of advice - if one of your clients is on Twitter and has 500,000 followers - start following her. After finding your audience, keep listening to what they are talking about. What are their opinions, issues or needs? Identify Goals and Objectives Now that you have gathered information and know what your audience is talking about, it is time to find objectives and goals. Example of goals might be to drive a specific amount of traffic to your website, or you want to increase followers by 14% in the next 6 months. And don't just consider your goals, but the goals of your audience's also. You get further with social media marketing when you offer something of value. Most marketers benefit when they spend about 10% of their time promoting their company and 90% of their time providing content of value to your audience. Development of Content This is the time to cultivate a timeline and content - basically a strategy. If you are planning to develop your content on your own then remember to optimize it with targeted keywords. If you have done good keyword research, you probably have a report with categories that are relative and this report will help you with great ideas for some proper content that will resound with your audience. Here are some great content ideas to post such as little known factoids or facts, white papers, posting of polls and then sharing the results, developing top 10 lists, postcase studies - this list can go on and on. Plan Implementation Now with objectives, a timeline and great content and social media sites, you are ready to begin posting content. Engage others in the conversation and keep to your schedule. You need to be sure you have the resources to be able to respond to feedback and comments so that the conversation keeps going. You can't just sit back and see what happens - this is a project that you need to keep up with daily. If you have all the steps in place you will begin to see your social media strategy pay off. It might be in more visitors to your website or more followers to your Facebook account. But it will keep the conversation going. This information is to help you develop a Social Media Strategy, and to begin to reach out to customers or clients by social media. This helps to find where your niche or audience is hanging out and what to do when you find them.
