Sure, you’re probably a big, strong, tough delivery person – you definitely have to be to keep at those courier jobs! But are you tough enough to digest any of these true creepy stories without getting the chills? Read on and find out! Tupperware Party It’s not unknown for many drivers on courier jobs to have no interface with the customer, which was why D., your typical man with a van, did not have any idea that his latest job would turn out strange. Like many assignments, the requirement was to pick up a certain box of items, from one area and deliver it across town to a house. D. then goes to the pickup point, where an unspeaking woman hands him a box, smiling, as well as an invoice and a cheque. He arrives at the destination, where there is an evening party, and asks for the recipient. He is asked to wait (not uncommon in courier jobs), watches the goings on, and finally delivers the package. D. thinks nothing of it, until several days later when he tries to deposit the cheque, which turns out to be stale, being dated several years before. Of course, he thinks it is simply a mistake – these things happen in courier jobs, after all; perhaps the customer was merely distracted when making out the cheque. He goes to where he picked up his package and is informed that the woman who supposedly handed him his delivery had passed on several years ago. Utterly creeped out, D. goes to the place where he delivered the package and finds nothing– only the burnt-out husk of a house where a fire broke out at a party several years ago. The Empty Elevator Even though it is past midnight (yes, some courier jobs involve odd hours, though one might be forgiven for refusing them after this) R. makes a call and is assured that there will be someone to receive the parcel, so he goes off to deliver his missive. He gets to his destination, takes the elevator up and makes the delivery with no incident whatsoever. He then takes the elevator down. On the 24th floor, it stops and opens, but no one gets in. The elevator closes again. The same thing happens on the 23rd floor, the 21st floor, the 19th, the 18th, the 17th… All the way to the 14th floor the elevator keeps stopping and opening, without anyone going in. On the 8th floor, the elevator opens again, without anyone getting in, but then starts sounding a warning alarm and an indicator starts to flash: the elevator is overweight. The Child on the Road M., a trucker, is on his way home from his last job of the day and feels rather sleepy. As he drives, a sight jolts him wide awake – a little boy suddenly appears right in the path of his truck! Instantly alert, he slams on the brakes. He gets off his truck and is surprised to find no child in sight – instead, he sees that, had he gone straight, he would have gone off a broken bridge, having missed the warning sign in his drowsiness. He gets back into the truck and drives off, thanking his lucky stars for the “angel” that warned him. And then he hears a petulant childish voice from the back: “But you should have died!” Norman Dulwich is a correspondent for Courier Exchange, the world's largest neutral trading hub for same day courier jobs in the express freight exchange industry.
