Getting Courier Jobs From Your Website: Does It Work? (Part I)

Automotive

Many independents in the haulage and delivery industry are often told that an online presence is absolutely necessary in securing regular courier jobs, and, for many, this means coming up with a website to advertise services. Is having a website really useful when it comes to getting more delivery assignments?  Well, yes and no.

Here is an overview of how having a website can help in growing your business – and how it won’t. Read on to make the most of your website if you already have one– and what to do if you don’t!

What A Website Can Do

Having a website can go a long way in establishing qualifications, building your credibility, enhancing your reputation and connecting with potential buyers, while letting them get to know you as a trustworthy candidate for their courier jobs. Chances are that people may find you through other means – a forum, a delivery auction site, a yellow pages listing – and having a business website to direct them to will go a long way in convincing them that you are the man [or woman] for the job.

A good website gives the impression that you are a stable business, will help impart a sense of professionalism, and give a feel of your reliability, inspiring the kind of confidence that will make potential customers entrust their valuable documents and goods to you. In short, your online persona must make you look like a person who will do courier jobs in a timely fashion, efficiently and affordably.

Look Like You Mean Business.Of course, this means your website should have a few minimal requirements. A clean, businesslike and professional-looking website is key to making sure it helps, not hinders, your search for courier jobs. It does not have to be expensive; there are many do it yourself website creators as well as free hosting and business templates available.

Get Your Own Domain Name. What you should not skimp on, however, is the domain name. As much as possible, try to register a domain in your business name or the closest possible. Avoid flippant and unprofessional sounding domains like truckerluv.com, flaming wheels69,com and the like – they aren’t going to help get you courier jobs, at least not respectable ones!

Get Testimonials. If you have happy customers, try to get them to leave feedback or, if they are particularly happy with your rates and performance, a testimonial on your site. Glowing testimonials, from reputable and known business owners are particularly great in inspiring confidence. Avoid the temptation to try to fake testimonials– when it comes to the web, the truth almost always comes out, so don’t take the chance. Customers aren’t the only ones you can get referrals and testimonials from – get some from a few people in the industry too.

Having a website is primarily to instil awareness and build your reputation and image. You need to make sure that it reflects the true you.
