Air conditioners consume a lot of energy and this can drastically affect the electricity bill. During seasons of extreme weather, an air conditioning system is necessary to ensure that the house environment is favorable. To ensure that your budget is not badly affected, you should consider alternative sources of energy to power your system. During summer, a solar-powered air conditioning system is a good option. This system is highly efficient since it utilizes energy from the sun. Solar energy is clean and has no negative effect on the environment. Therefore, you should carefully consider this option when planning to install air conditioners in your house. In case you don’t have enough information on solar-powered systems, you should enquire for more information from dealers or experts. The principle of operation of this air conditioner is called sorption. The process, thermo- chemical in nature, entails heating of a sorbent material to remove moisture. Normally, the system is designed in such a way that a fluid, gas or liquid, is attached to a solid layer. Two processes are involved when the two substances are placed this way: absorption and adsorption. Depending on the substance that is being absorbed, one of these processes takes place. A sorbent material commonly known as silica gel is used in solar-powered air conditioners. The sorbent is heated to dryness by heat from the sun rays. The process is known as desorption. In an alternating manner, the reverse process occurs when silica gel dries. Some design considerations may affect how the entire process occurs. For instance, the operation of open refrigerant systems and closed refrigerant systems differs. Exposure of silica gel to the atmosphere also affects the system. To simplify the process, we use silica gel to remove moisture in the air before it is directed into the room. We normally use a fan for this purpose, and silica gel is packed inside the coiled pipes. In addition, we also use silica gel to remove heat as air passes through the pipes. As a result, the air we feed into the room has no heat or moisture. This process of removing heat and moisture from air is repeated several times to give a cool atmosphere. Solar-powered air conditioning systems have many benefits compared to other options. To begin with, the system is environmentally friendly since no harmful byproducts are emitted to the atmosphere during the process. In comparison, use of fossil fuel as a source of energy is known to degrade environment. Secondly, use of solar energy to run the system reduces electricity consumption. Solar energy is free and therefore effective. In short, a solar air conditioner is the most efficient system to use during summer.
