The city has a rich history and is considered an important place as the centre of Kalchuri and Gond dynasties of the past. The Maratha and Mughal empires have had significant impact on the city’s culture and historical standing. The city holds an important place in the country’s education map and many important colleges and institutes are located in Jabalpur. Jabalpur is one of the well known cities in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. Known for its beautiful marble rock formations, it is the administrative headquarter of Jabalpur district. It is popularly referred to as “SanskarDhani” the cultural capital of the state. The reason is perhaps because many important figures of Indian culture have had long terms significant associations with the city. Geographically, the city is located at an elevation of 411 meters and is surrounded by rocky barren hillocks. It is by the Narmada river which is the main river body. Jabalpur experiences very hot summers and moderate winters, while spring and autumn seasons are comfortable. The main lively hood of the people of Jabalpur is agriculture as the whole region is quite fertile and a variety of crops are cultivated here. There are also quite a few industries, with garment industry being one of the most well-known here. There are also a number of mineral based industries. The city is well connected by road and railway, making it easier for tourists to visit. Jabalpur welcomes quite a few tourists who come here to view the different places of tourist attraction here. The marble rocks formation in Bhedaghat which is 25 kms from Jabalpur is the major attraction. The picturesque Duandhar waterfall is another popular tourist site. The waterfall is created by the Narmada River which passes through the marble rocks and narrows to become a smoky waterfall. The Chausath-Yogini temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is an important religious site for Hindus. The temple has carved stone figures of deities belonging to the Kalchuri period. The Lameta Ghat and Tilwara Ghats are beautiful river ghats close to Jabalpur. The eroded volcanic rock formation called Balancing Rock is another attraction in Jabalpur. There are also many well-known wildlife sanctuaries nearby including the Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha National Park and Pench Kanha National Park. The best time to visit Jabalpur is during the winter months as summer is very hot here. During winter and autumn season, the weather is pleasant and ideal for a vacation here.
