Once home to the Wodeyar Maharajas, this laid back place has now become a popular tourist stop in Karnataka and a burgeoning center for Ashtanga Yoga. While visiting Mysore, quite a few travellers also make it a point to check pack in trips to Coorg and Wayanad to their itinerary. Royal Tour of Maharaja’s Palace A not to be missed place on one’s Mysore trip is the Indo-Saracenic Maharaja's Palace. This is a new structure, which came up in 1912 after the older one burnt down in 1897. The interiors of the palace dazzle onlookers with its plethora of colours, intricate mirrors, and brilliant colours. Attractions include Edwardian era paintings on Mysore, mosaic floors, and finely carved wooden doors. The palace is also home to a fine temple dedicated to Sri Shweta Varahaswamy. The temple is dedicated to Chamundeshwari or Durga and was supposedly built by the Hoysala rulers in the 12th century. It is assumed that the tower was added by the Vijayanagar rulers in the 17th century. One has to climb a thousand stairs to reach the temple from the base of the hill. This beautiful destination makes for a charming getaway and just some of the attractions that make a Mysore to Coorg trip worthwhile are Iruppu Falls, Abbi Falls, and the Nisargadhama Forest. The driving time from Mysore to Coorg is about 2 hours. A Wayanad Tour The Mysore to Wayanad distance is some 137 km. Some of the major attractions at this lovely destination include Chembra Peak, Sentinal Rock Waterfalls, and Neelimala View Point. You may drive down from Mysore to Wayanad in about two to two and a half hours.
