Situated above 625 m above sea level, Khandala is situated on the Western Ghats in the state of Maharashtra. This is a famous hill station for Mumbaikars from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Khandala has a moderate climate throughout the year. This hill station fascinates its visitors by its wonderful lakes, cascading waterfalls and green valleys. Situated in the district of Pune, Khandala owes to its developers, the British for its colonial mansions. Khandala is very popular for activities like nature walking and hiking. Khandala’s proximity to various hill stations and the famous cuisine in the city are the main reason for the popularity of Khandala. Lonavala and Khandala are the twin cities for tourists to roam around. Deep valley on one side and hill on the other side divide Lonavala and Khandala. Khandala attracts nature lovers, adventure seekers and casual tourists equally. It is an ideal weekend gateway from Mumbai. The area around Khandala was ruled by Chattrapati Shivaji. Later the place was invaded by Peshwa kings and from them the British took over the region. Rajmachi Fort, Amrutanjan Point, Reversing Station, Tiger’s Leap and Shingroba Temple are some of the famous Places to Visit in Khandala. Rajmachi Fort is built by Shivaji in the 17th century which is an attraction for the tourists. The Rajmachi fort can be reached by a 2-day trekking from Lonavala. Bushi Lake is a popular lake in Khandala for the travellers to relax. The natural beauty around the lake and the crystal clear water rejuvenates the visitors. Amruthanjan point is a beautiful point from which one can view the whole area around. The scenery from the point is fantastic and breathtaking. This green land is a popular picnic spot for tourists. When the rain drizzles, the whole area become green and the waterfall become thick and beautiful. Located at the end of the Bhor Valley, Khandala is famous for its cave temples of 2nd century BC. These temples showcase the great Buddhist architecture. Karla and Bhaja caves are some examples of these rock-cut caves. One of the other Places to visit in Khandala is the Reversing Station which was once used by the railway department. From this place, tourists can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding. Tiger’s leap, located at an elevation of 650 m, is a fascination for the tourists. Shingroba temple located between Khandala and Khopoli is a marvelous temple. The temple was built in the year 1929 and is a popular holy spot in the region. Khandala can be visited throughout the year. Khandala can be reached by rail and road.
