There should be an emphatic stress on job creation

Career,Business Opportunities
Q: INDIA HAS SET ITSELF THE TARGET OF SKILLING 500 MILLION PEOPLE BY 2022. HOW CAN COMPANIES HELP IN REALISING THAT VISION? I feel Indian corporates have a major role in human resource development, as they are one of the biggest utilisers of skilled people. Hence, they should contribute in achieving this target. Also, emphasis should be laid on developing entrepreneurial skills, which will add to the overall development. Corporates should also help in creating new job opportunities and not see employment as an expense but as an investment towards creating a market or consumer base for their own long-term good and the country's economy.

Q: UNDER THE ONGOING UNCERTAIN ECONOMIC CLIMATE, HOW CAN INDIA REWRITE ITS GROWTH STORY? Globally, the focus is drifting back from emerging markets like India to the developed nations with signs of recovery in the developed economies. Along with this, the persistent decline in domestic economic growth, high inflation, deteriorating fiscal discipline, widening external deficit, and diminishing business confidence are making the country's economic climate uncertain. The country requires some immediate steps, which the government is trying to take and most importantly, many corrective measures and rectification of past mistakes from a longterm perspective. A few fundamental measures are required to ensure effective policy-making and execution of social infrastructural development, education, healthcare and other fundamentals - for all. Second and most important, is the deliberate shift from 'economy of elite' to 'economy of collective growth'. I term it as 'collective materialism'. In the recent past, if you see, when the country was showing nine per cent growth and all the economic indicators were poised to show us in the pink of health, in actual, this nine per cent growth led to very minimal employment generation. In order to address this, it requires a change in not only the government's outlook and implementation of policies, but also the objectives of corporate India. There should be a strong emphasis on providing good education, skill development, health and quality living standards to all. There should be opportunities and support for entrepreneurs at all levels and the regulatory system should be reciprocal to the same. There should be an emphatic stress on job creation and employee growth at all levels. This will, in turn, create a market for corporates and revenues for governments. I believe that India needs to take the path of collective materialism, so that inclusive growth can be achieved, thus leading to a fundamentally strong economy where even the poor and farmers are contributors to the economic growth and become its benefactors too.

Q: YOU ARE OFFERING MORE THAN 56,000 VACANCIES. IS MASS HIRING A PART OF YOUR RECRUITMENT STRATEGY? We have been ranked as the second largest employer in the country after the Indian Railways by Time magazine. We have employees in Tier-1, 2 and 3 cities as well. Currently, we are in the process of entering into many new businesses and works of social welfare. All these efforts are directed at providing better and quality life to people at all levels and helping in nation-building. These 56,000 positions are our critical senior resource requirements, as a part of our expansion strategy. In addition to this, we will be hiring around four lakh people at various levels in total for our new businesses and ventures. Sahara is expanding its businesses in various sectors including FMCG and retail; luxury real estate and lifestyle venture; cruise; infrastructure and housing; financial services; low cost housing; healthcare; food and beverages; poultry and dairy. These are emerging sectors and have tremendous potential to offer promising career opportunities. Under our CSR project, VEDAS, we have adopted 1000 villages to empower the community by providing safe drinking water, education, healthcare, sanitation, renewal energy, skill-development, etc. We have also invited applications for this project since major skilled and trained manpower is required to implement the projects at a grass-root level in these villages. Sahara is investing around Rs 32,400 crore in all these sectors under its expansion plans.

Q: ARE JOB OPENINGS AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE AT ALL LEVELS OR RESTRICTED TO SENIOR LEVELS ONLY? EXPLAIN YOUR RECRUITMENT PHILOSOPHY. We will create jobs across all levels, but these 56,000 positions have a specific skill-set requirement and there will be around four lakh people, whom we will be hiring at all levels. Furthermore, we are also promoting entrepreneurship; forinstance, under Sahara Q shop, we provide business opportunities to individuals through independent franchises with optimum support from our side. I believe that the organisation grows when all the people associated with it and its stakeholders also grow. In fact, in the last 36 years, not a single rupee has been declared as dividend by the group and nobody has ever had a share in the profits. 40 per cent of its profit every year is spent towards the welfare of its Kartavyayogis (read: employees) 25 per cent towards social development activities and 35 per cent to the company's net-owned fund.

Q: WHICH ARE THE PEOPLE MANAGEMENT / TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PRACTICES THAT YOU HAVE IN PLACE TO ENGAGE SUCH A HUGE WORKFORCE? We have already initiated our plan to create a learning and development centre - Gurukul, which will not only focus on skilldevelopmental and behavioural training, but also reinforce our culture and philosophy, thereby fostering organisational management based on family values and a culture developed on trust, emotion, respect, love and affection.

Q: ARE YOU ALSO TARGETING THE IMMENSE TALENT AVAILABLE IN TIER-1 AND TIER-2 CITIES? They have good educational institutes and people are in no way 'lesser' in professionalism and skills than those in bigger cities. All the talent in such cities need is an opportunity to perform. So, our approach is more on targeting smaller cities and providing employment there itself. We don't want to move the workforce.

Working with a brand who is ranked as a second largest employer in the country is matter of pride. I have applied for poultry domain from their website. Let's see if I crack the interview rounds, wish me luck.
