Jodhpur city celebrate festivals with great enthusiasm which include Teej, Marwar, MahavirJayanti, and Gangaur among others. Jodhpur International Kite Festival is also anspectacular event here. Jodhpur,a desert city, is situated in the state of Rajasthan. Founded in the year 1459 by RaoJodha, a Rathore Rajput clan chief, Jodhpur is located near theThar Desert. Jodhpur city, named after RaoJodha, is famous for its forts and monuments.The former name of the city was Marwar and is the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan. Jodhpur city is also known as the ‘Sun City’ as the sun shines brightly here throughout the year. Also known as the ‘Blue City’, Jodhpur is whitewashed in light blue. Places to visit in Jodhpur include Mehrangarh Fort, JaswantThada, GhantaGhar (Clock Tower) and UmaidBhawan Palace.MahamandirTemple, Balsamand Lake, SardarSamand Lake, and Masooria Hill and TakhatSagar Lake are also frequented by tourists.Jai Pol is the ‘Gate of Victory’. Constructed in 1806 by Maharaja Man Singh, this gate is the symbol of victory of Marwar over the neighboring cities like Jaipur and Bikaner. JaswantThada was built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant in 1899 by his son. This architectural beauty is built by white marble. Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts Jodhpur. Situated 5 km away in a hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city, its construction is believed to be completed by Maharaja Jaswant Singh in the second half of the 17th century. The fort offers marvelous view of the whole city. UmaidBhawan Palace, built in 1944 in western style by Maharaja Umaid Singh, is one of the last palaces built in India. Half of the palace is occupied by a hotel and the other half is by a museum. One of the main Places to visit in Jodhpur is Balsamand Lake which is an artificial lake. The lake is surrounded by 300 acres of green gardens consists of trees of mango, pomegranate, guava and plum and several animals and birds.Mahamandir Temple is a huge temple built in 1812 with 84 pillars. The architectural works in stone is eye catching. It is situated 2 km away from the city of Jodhpur. In Jodhpur Hotels, the city offers all types of hotels with different rates and facilities. The city of Jodhpur can be reached by all modes of transports like air, road and rail. The best season to visit the city is from October to March.
