With the growing awareness among people about environmental degradation, almost every environment conscious person is well aware of CNG tanks. The rise in demand and shortfall in availability of conventional fuel is making them very expensive. This is where the introduction of compressed natural gas as served as a blessing in disguise for the automotive industry. As the non-renewable types of source of energies are getting scarce and exhausted, availability of this alternative form of energy has brought respite not only to the automotive industry but in many industrial undertakings as well. A cng tank is better known for storing CNG, a form of energy that is the perfect substitute for diesel, petrol or gasoline. It usually comes in a gaseous form and is therefore very lightweight in nature. Known to be less refined when compared with petrol, it uses different gases. The natural gas is compressed and packed in cylinders. As such, this compressed gas takes lesser volume and when filled in cylinders, they become usable for various vehicles. Being lighter than other known atmospheric gases, they are very prone to accidents. Therefore, these tanks are used for storing them in a better and safer manner. Remember – these tanks are liable to expire if correct standards are not used for preserving them in rightful manner. The manufacturers of these cylinders are mandatorily required to adhere to cylinder certification standards. Past experiences have shown their average service life in earlier times was 15 years which was subsequently increased to 20 years. When it comes to maintenance of similar cylinder standards, most countries adopt almost same standards. For instance, the tanks are not permissible to be recertified on expiry of their service life. That is the time when these cylinders ought to be declared out of service. The owners of the car can either replace such cylinders or simply stop making using of the car.
